Think about how the early childhood community<BR>can get involved!</B><BR><BR><B>Share the VOICES of our youngest children!</B><BR><FONT face="comic sans ms,sans-serif" size=4><BR>Voices of Youth lets teens choose the public art projects<BR><BR>Whats the best way to get young people involved in creating and implementing<BR>art in public spaces? <BR><BR>Thats the first of three questions The Pittsburgh Foundation will ask on<BR>Voices of Youth, a new website designed to get the public involved in the<BR>grant-making process. <A href="http://t.ymlp65.com/yazauqmaxaqwjanambss/click.php">To check it out, click here</A> --<BR><BR>The idea competition, launched jointly with The Grable Foundation and<BR>Changemakers.net, works like this: Visitors to the site can answer the<BR>question between now and May 20. Young people submitting ideas can also use<BR>the site to discuss and develop their thoughts. A committee of experts,<BR>including Grables Community Cabinet members, will then narrow down the pool<BR>of responses. <BR><BR>About a half-dozen strong suggestions will appear on the site in early June,<BR>and the public will vote for the projects they believe deserve funding.<BR>Voting ends June 24, and two winning projects will each receive up to<BR>$25,000.<BR><BR>Once the competition ends, the next two questions how to create public<BR>spaces that promote intergenerational contact and how to get young people<BR>more involved in philanthropy will appear. The entire voting process will be<BR>completed by years end.<BR><BR>This is a new way of looking at the community foundation and our<BR>relationship with the broader community, says Jeanne Pearlman, senior vice<BR>president for program and policy at the Foundation. Giving Pittsburghers,<BR>especially young people, a central voice in deciding where money goes is a<BR>great way to broaden and democratize the grant-making process, she says.
