Subject: Voices of Youth
Check-out this WONDEFUL new opportunity available through the Grable andPittsburgh Foundations. BE INNOVATIVE, BE CREATIVE! Think about how the early childhood communitycan get involved!Share the VOICES of our youngest children!Voices of Youth lets teens choose the public art projectsWhats the best way to get young people involved in creating and implementingart in public spaces? Thats the first of three questions The Pittsburgh Foundation will ask onVoices of Youth, a new website designed to get the public involved in thegrant-making process. To check it out, click here --The idea competition, launched jointly with The Grable Foundation andChangemakers.net, works like this: Visitors to the site can answer thequestion between now and May 20. Young people submitting ideas can also usethe site to discuss and develop their thoughts. A committee of experts, including Grables Community Cabinet members, will then narrow down the poolof responses. About a half-dozen strong suggestions will appear on the site in early June, and the public will vote for the projects they believe deserve funding.Voting ends June 24, and two winning projects will each receive up to$25,000.Once the competition ends, the next two questions how to create publicspaces that promote intergenerational contact and how to get young peoplemore involved in philanthropy will appear. The entire voting process will becompleted by years end. This is a new way of looking at the community foundation and ourrelationship with the broader community, says Jeanne Pearlman, senior vicepresident for program and policy at the Foundation. Giving Pittsburghers, especially young people, a central voice in deciding where money goes is agreat way to broaden and democratize the grant-making process, she says. Italso helps the Foundation to connect more fully with the community somethingtheyve prioritized this year.Writer: Melissa RayworthSource: Jeanne Pearlman, Pittsburgh FoundationThe Grable Foundation650 Smithfield Street, Suite 240Pittsburgh, PA 15222(412) 471.4550
