Send Letters to Congress 

After House Approval of NCLI

 

The House of Representatives approval of the No Child Left Inside Act of 2008 was an important victory. Now it's time for members of the Coalition to let members of Congress know how we feel about the vote. 

 

We urge each of our members - now totaling more than 777 groups - to take a few minutes now to send a letter to Congress.

 

We have attached two sample letters - one thanking members who voted for the bill; and one urging those who voted "no" to reconsider their positions next year. 

 

We are also planning to send a second set of letters from the entire Coalition - one to those who supported NCLI and a second one to those who voted "no." We hope all members of the Coalition will be comfortable having their names on both of these letters.

 

So please take the following steps:

 

1. Check the NCLI Coalition website to see how your member of Congress voted. 

 

2. Depending on how your member voted, customize one of the attached letters, on your organization's letterhead, and fax it to your member of Congress.  Click here to find your Representative's contact information.  Please be sure to send a copy of the letter to both of your Senators as well, to let them know how much we care about this issue.

 

3. Review the two attached Coalition letters, one of which will be sent to all members of the House, depending on whether they voted for or against NCLI. If you are comfortable having your organization's name on these letters, you don't need to do anything. If you do NOT want your organization listed on either of these Coalition letters, please alert me, Abby Ybarra, by 5 p.m. EDT on Monday, September 29.

 

This post-vote follow-up is important as it reminds members of Congress and their staffs that we care and we are staying involved.
