Plant Stewardship Index Field Training Workshop
Wednesday, October 1, 2008
9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Non-members: $185; Preserve members: $165.
Pre-registration with payment required by Monday, September 29; call the
Preserve at (215) 862-2924.
Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve has developed the Plant Stewardship Index
(PSI) with the assistance of botanical experts from Pennsylvania and New
Jersey. The PSI is an analytical tool that enables stewards of public and
private lands to survey and assess the status of native plant populations on
the properties they protect and manage.
This workshop provides an overview of PSI field sampling techniques and
practical experience in the calculation of PSI values for a variety of
habitats. In the morning, you will learn to use both the transect sampling
method and the plot sampling method on the Preserve grounds. In the
afternoon, find out about practical applications of the PSI and see
demonstrations of how to set out and analyze transects.
Please bring a clipboard, a pencil, botany field guide and lunch. Fee
includes a copy of the PSI and a packet of information on its use.
