[PAEE] exciting news about NCLI Initiative !!

Hello all,  On August 7 I particiapated in the monthly call for the NAAEE affiliates reguarding the No Child Left Inside Initiative. The exciting news is the bill will be voted on by the full house of representative when they return to Washington in September.  It will be a stand alone bill introduced by Rep. John P. Sarbanes with 295 votes needed for passage. It is felt by Sarbanes and his office that there is suport by all Democrates leaving 54 Republican votes needed. NOW is the time to once again contact your representatives to ensure their support. You will find them in their home offices during the rest of this month. If you make any contact with your representative, please let me know, along with the reaction. This is important information for those leading this action. The coalitionn continues to grow, with over 600 members representing 43 million people. There are 15 to 20 new organizations being added daily. Are the organizations you belong to part of this action?  Of course we think of environmental groups, but there are also religious, education, health, and recreation groups involved.  As I told you before, this is creating an unbelievable impression on Capitla Hill.  

Passage will allow a state to apply for money for developing a literacy plan (PA already has this, but it may need some tweeking.) and then teacher training and capacity building. The coalition is ahead of the game and thinking of the funding needs. Already it is being attached to a climate change bill.
