Description: Internship in native plants and public gardens

Start Date: May or June, 2008

Length of Internship: 10 - 15 weeks; 40 hours/week

Hourly Wage: $8.00

Applicant Requirements: 2 years of college or equivalent;
background/strong interest in botany, horticulture, environmental
studies 

Application Deadline: February 22, 2008

 

Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve offers a paid summer internship to
qualified applicants wishing to learn about native plants and public
gardens. The 134-acre Preserve features nearly 1000 species of native
plants in naturalistic settings along 2.5 miles of trails. 

 

Interns work closely with Preserve staff and receive in-depth training
in: 

Native plant propagation 

Interpretation and public education 

Groundskeeping and trail maintenance 

 

Field trips to other botanical gardens, native plant nurseries and
natural areas round out interns' understanding of plants and public
gardens. Interns also attend educational programs at the Preserve and
complete an individual research or work project. 

 

Who Should Apply:

Applicants must have completed at least 2 years of college, or the
equivalent, with background and a strong interest in botany,
horticulture and/or related environmental studies. Applicants should
be capable of rigorous outdoor work including lifting, digging, and
sustained walking.

online at www.bhwp.org/educational/internships. Initial screening will
be based upon this application and a cover letter only. Final
selections will be based on personal interviews; decisions will be
made entirely without regard to race, religion, national origin,
gender or sexual orientation. Please return applications by February
