I am thinking that this initiative reguarding No Child Left Inside and the NCLB act is of utmost inportance. Although the next PAEE JOURNAL is being printed and soon to be mailed, I am taking the liberty of sending out the article that is there. Information is also on the PAEE website. If you have never or often contacted your congressmen, now is the time to do it, before they return to DC to vote. NAAEE suggests you do so, first by letter and then follow up with a phone call and an offer to help with information and support. If you are having any kind of ee event -INVITE THEM and the newspapers! The 2 best websites to read and be informed are in the article below. There is particular interest in and by Representative Platts. Contact has been made with him, by Strawberry Hill Nature Center, but if you are in that area, please back them up with your voice. Ruth

North American Association for Environmental

Education (NAAEE).

In July U.S. Rep. John P. Sarbanes (MD) introduced

the No Child Left Inside Act of 2007 to the

House Committee on Education and Labor (H.R.

3036) that would amend the No Child Left Behind

law to provide new federal funding for environmental

education and give states incentives to improve

environmental instruction. NAAEE’s Executive Director

Brian Day joined Rep. Sarbanes and members of the

No Child Left Inside Coalition for the press event.

The NAEE is urging everyone to “Ask Your Representative

to Co-Sponsor the No Child Left Inside Act of

2007”.

The language in the No Child Left Inside Act of

2007 recommends including environmental education

in NCLB in these ways:

1. Provide incentives for state

educational agencies to create

a State Environmental Literacy

Plan for integrating environmental

education into their K-12 curriculum

to ensure that graduates

are environmentally literate.

2. Provide funding to help states, schools systems,

and environmental education partners to implement

the State Environmental Literacy Plan.

To read more on this and to fi nd out what you

can do to help get this important piece of legislation

passed please go to the NAAEE website

www.NAAEE.org and follow the link to EE-Advocacy in

the left hand navigation bar.
