One additional note on the paints we carry--pricing. Generally, you're looking at $40 to $44 p/gallon, and right now we have Yolo paints on sale for $36.

 Suggestions on your paint questions:

Low-voc paints are for the most part (not in all cases) still quite toxic. For that matter, many ZERO VOC paints are the same way. Several toxic ingredients are NOT considered a VOC, thus a Zvoc paint can still contain some pretty harsh chemicals. The lesson here: just because a paint claims a Zero VOC rating does not gaurantee it's safety/non-toxicity.

Back to Low-VOC paints... AFM Safecoat, Yolo, Ivy Coatings are examples of paints that even in their low-voc formulations are non-toxic. They do register a VOC reading, but it's from a benign ingredient. BioShield makes a terrific line of Clay-based paints, and I'd recommend any of the above mentioned for your project.

I'm not sure why you would select a big box store to buy paint from, especially when the knowledge factor seems important to you. I'd recommend visiting us in Mt. Airy, we can mix any color you wish on the spot and I can gaurantee you'll breathe easier knowing the paint you'll take home is the best choice for your health.

As a sidenote on "knowledge," (not related to paint, but rather wood flooring)I want to convey something I experienced at the Philly Home Show--we had a booth for the 9 day event and I was amazed at visiting other booths that sold
hardwood floors, that NO ONE from these booths was familiar with FSC certification.

 Best Regards To Everyone,

  Greetings,

I'm probably going to be helping a friend paint their house (inside) and
will be trying to steer them towards low voc and/or other healthier and
more sustainable supplies. While I know of places like the enviro.
homestore, etc. we will most likely be going to Home Depot or some
similar large hardware store to pick up paints and other supplies. Since
their paint sections are so large and there is unlikely to be
knowledgable help available, I was wondering for tips on particular
brands and/or lines of product to look for that might be better than
  others. Thanks.
