Hello Ralph et al -
I notice my name was mentioned in a prior email and am honored to be thought of...
For my whole adult life from college through about 5 years ago (about 15 years) I never owned a car and lived in big cities. I now some days work from home but for the time being I don't live in a very walkable community and often need a short trip to run an errand, etc... Some days I drive 9 miles each way to my real estate office, and my business and social/volunteer activities demand I drive as needed often as much as 25 miles or so round trip. When I do drive, my Scion xB gets 30+ MPG (a little less in 'burbs).
BUT, I can at least proudly say that I've been "religiously" turning off lights and power strips, unplugging appliances/gadgets, changing bulbs to CFLs, keeping thermostat down and getting close to getting programmable thermostat... I hope that will suffice for now...
BTW - I learned last night from a colleague on the DVGBC Residential Real Estate Committee that the lowest efficient setting for programmable thermostat in winter is 64 degrees (assuming you will later be bringing it up at least 4 degrees), which is also a good setting for dropping down manually when out of the house or sleeping.
Blessings to all of you who can make the drive less pledge, and I hope you don't stop with just the driving...! And all of you who do drive getting 30+MPG?? When I was car shopping a few years ago Toyota Corollas and Honda Civics were a good choice for my budget; my Scion is made by Toyota and gets similar mileage and was the price of a 2 y.o. Corolla.

Three more since last week. That makes 25. Half-way to the goal of 50. You give to NPR? This is at least as important. There are hundreds of you out there! Take the pledge!
Judy? Sherry? Jerry? Kevin? Jaclyn?
You know, of course, the one day you leave your car sitting does not have to be the same day every week, right? Any one in every seven.
Ralph
