Hi all,

I am new to the DVS list-serve and would like to introduce myself. I am a
Philadelphia filmmaker with a project that may interest you. It's a feature
film called Future Weather and is currently in development through a
grassroots effort for local production in the fall.

Future Weather is a coming-of-age drama that came out of my need for people
to examine global warming on an existential level. It's the story of a
twelve-year-old environmentalist who is abandoned by her young mother and
must learn to cope with the uncertainty of both her own life and the world
at large. My goal is to use fiction to bring more awareness to global
warming and to explore the emotional and social implications of this threat.

While I have a deep interest in the environment, I come to it more from the
heart and not as an expert, and that is how I am best-suited to reach people
through this project. However, I do want the science involved in the story
to be accurate, and in keeping with the changes I am trying to implement in
my own life, my goal is to run the production as sustainably as possible.

Being that there is not a lot of precedence for green film production
(especially for independent films), I joined DVS to see what kind of info I
can pick up that might be applicable to our particular set of problems and
to learn about local green businesses we may be able to partner with.
Ultimately, we would love to work with a consultant or mentor to help us
craft a plan of action and stay with us through the production. This could
be a wonderful opportunity for someone who is starting out in green
design/event planning/biz consulting and needs a new project to add to their
portfolio or for someone with a background in film who also has ecological
interests. Please contact me directly if this interests you or anyone you
know.

I will also be seeking people with a scientific background related to
conservation, botany, climate studies and/or ecology. When we get closer to
production, I will be creating two science experiments that the heroine
undertakes in the film – 1) a comparison between a deciduous and coniferous
tree to see which species is the better carbon sink and 2) a map
representing the weather patterns in her town in thirty years if CO2 levels
continue to rise at their current rate. They both feature prominently in the
film. If anyone has an area of expertise related to either "experiment" and
is interested in collaborating and applying it in the context of a movie,
please contact me directly as well.

Our website is www.futureweathermovie.com. You can watch our trailers and
learn more about the production and story there. Feel free to email me with
questions, etc. I look forward to connecting with you. You seem like an
incredibly motivated and dynamic group of people.

Warm wishes,

Jenny
